Models talk! Melody Vroom on How to change your lifestyle into a healthy one

mel2

Hi everyone,

I get a lot of questions from girls who want to change their lifestyle into a healthy one and don’t know how to begin with it. I thought, what better way to answer this question than with a blogpost? While reading this, remember that I’m not a nutritionist or an health expert, the tips I’m sharing with you are just things that work(ed) for me. Everyone has a different body, so everyone should do what feels right for them. These are just some tips to help everyone who wants to change their lifestyle and make it easier for them!

The first important change you have to make if you want to change your lifestyle is drinking a lot more water. I used to forget to drink water all the time and I mainly drank other things than water. When you start drinking enough water your skin gets better, you’re metabolism goes up and your overall health improves. Don’t drink more than 2.5 litres of water, doing this can damage your kidneys.

Another really important thing is to never skip breakfast. By eating a healthy, nutritious breakfast every morning you are full for longer and you won’t snack on bad food during the day because you’re less hungry.

Skipping snacks like candy, chips and other fatty or foods with a lot of added sugar and replacing them with (dried) fruits, vegetables, nuts, yoghurt etc. is the next step to healthy eating habits. All of these foods have great benefits. Fruits have a lot of fibres and vitamins just like vegetables, nuts have the healthy fats you need and yoghurt has protein. An example of a great snack is a mixture between carbs, fats and protein such as yoghurt (protein) with nuts (mainly fats) and fruits (carbs). This will keep you full until lunch/dinner and there are a lot of ways to keep healthy snacking fun so you grab a bag of candy much less likely.

09:30 – I always start the day with a glass of warm water with the juice of half a lemon. It kickstarts your metabolism and it has many health benefits, you should try it!

10:00 – School starts at 12.15 today so I slept until late and that also means a late breakfast! This was a bowl of teff, almond milk, cacao powder, blueberries, cashews and shaved coconut. Really refreshing!

Note: 1 cup = 237 ml.
Ingredients:
CAKE
2 cups spelt flour
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp salt
2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp nutmeg
2 cups grated carrots
1 cup almond milk (or rice milk, coconut milk, etc.)
1 cup applesauce
1 cup agave syrup or maple syrup
1/2 cup crushed walnuts
ICING
200 gr. raw cashews (soaked for at least 4 hours, then drained)
2 tbsp coconut oil
1 bar of white chocolate (only if you prefer)
RECIPE
Preheat the oven to 350F (175C). Mix all dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl: flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt. Grate the carrots and add along with the rest of the ingredients of the cake, except for the walnuts to the flour mixture. Mix until “just mixed.” Mix in the walnuts.  Transfer to a greased 13x9x2 (inches) pan. Bake for 40-50 min at 350F until a toothpick inserted into the middle of the cake comes out clean.
Now the icing. Mix the cashews until they are crumbled. Melt the coconut oil au bain marie and add to the cashew crumble. If you prefer to add some white chocolate, melt this as well and add it to the mixture. Mix until it becomes completely smooth. Start frosting the cake when the cake is cooled down! Top your icing layer with some whole walnuts, to make it look extra fancy. Put the cake in the fridge for about an hour.
We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!
Love and best of luck,
ModelsLoveFood

Tuesday with Fabienne Dobbe! Models Love Food

Food

Hi, Spotted Stylers!

Evie is sick today, so I will blog for her. I will show you my food diary again and of course the recipes! Yesterday  I was studying the whole morning and in the midday I went to the gym and after it I continued studying. Exams are coming!

In the morning I had low fat quark, with an apple, mulberries, broken line seeds, dates and agave syrup. I eat low fat quark because it fills my stomach really good, it has not so many calories and it is better than a normal full yogurt. Broken line seeds contain many fibers and that helps with weight loss and being in shape (what is really important for me and modelling). The dates and mulberries are pure for the taste, I LOVE dates, I’m a bit addicted (;.
