How to survive at Fashion Week

Fashion week is one of the most exciting events of the year and it can be quite fun or it can turn into a stressful experience if it’s part of your work. The tight schedules of the fashion shows, meetings, the chaos and the rush for them from one location to another can be challenging. Besides that you have to make sure that you look fabulous all the time, socialize, pay attention to the collections and the models, try to remember the names of all the people that come to say hi to you while you have absolutely no idea who are they and last but not least… have some fun or preferably … a loooooot of fun! We have been through all that above and we have some tips how to do well at your first fashion circus, if attending fashion week is part of your job!

  1. Make sure you are always on time

It’s a fact that most of the time the fashion shows start later than the timing set on the official schedules but it is always nice to get at the right location a bit earlier, so you don’t have to sprint in hour heels and ruin them. In case you are from that type of people who are always fashionably late, you take the risk to miss the show because even that some shows start later, the doors close right on time.

Fashion Week diaries with Spotted Style’s editor Nadina

Thomas Nelissen and I at Two Legged Creatures ( Team Peter Stegter Photography)

Hello lovely Spotted Stylers!

Welcome to my Fashion Week editor’s diary! Between 14th and 18th of January Mercedez- Benz Fashion Week Amsterdam was held at Westergasterrein and I had the pleasure to attend most of the shows and spot some Dutch models! Same as last year, I was happy to see many familiar faces of models, designers and bookers! I guess most of you were there too, enjoying the shows but in case you missed it and wonder what was it like, let me take you on a little walk through my fashion week editor’s notes from day 1!

Two Legged Creatures

Actually day 1 for our Spotted Style team was day 2 of Fashion week, so we were a bit fashionably late but better late then never, right? The first show that my spotted partner in fashion crime Thomas Nelissen and I watched was Two Legged Creatures! I found it very special, different and outstanding. It’s one of the shows that left a trace in my mind and days after Fashion Week I keep on going back to the videos and the pictures in my phone to look for an inspiration! Thanks to the designer for the front row seats, definitely the perfect view to spot the models who did an amazing job! Their walk was quite challenging because the shoes had big high soles and the girls had to step in and out of red colored liquid, leaving bloody traces on the snow white catwalk. I loved the show, the models, their pixelated make up tears and the collection! We spotted Donnate from Elite Amsterdam! Big applause for Two Legged Creatures! (more…)

Backstage at Spijkers & Spijkers with Sabien Reintjes from Future Faces!

Hi sweet Spotted Style readers,
Last week it was that time of year again: Amsterdam fashion week! I’ve been walking shows at Amsterdam fashion week many times now and I really enjoy doing it. The vibe is always good and there are always a lot of people I know so its never boring and doesn’t really feel like work!
One of the shows I did last week was for Spijkers & Spijkers, last few AFW editions I walked for them as well, so I already knew what the day would look like. Spijkers & Spijkers is a Dutch design brand owned by the Truus and Riet Spijkers sisters. Its one of my favorite shows to walk, so I was thrilled that they booked me again this time.

Backstage with Melody Vroom at Mercedez-Benz FashionWeek Amsterdam

Hello lovely Spotted Style readers! I walked the opening show of this season’s Amsterdam Fashion Week and with this post I want to show you what it’s like to walk a show.
When I arrived at 13:00, I couldn’t find the backstage location at first. I asked someone who worked on the ‘Westergasterrein’ and he told me to go right, but a couple of minutes later I found out that I actually had to go left. Oops, a little hectic start of the day, haha!
I entered the backstage location after a little bit of searching, and I saw that Marleen (Future Faces) and Silke (Future Faces) were already there. We didn’t have a lot of time to catch up because I had to start fitting my outfits for the show. The two costumes I had two wear were a golden dress with golden diamonds and matching shoes from Claes Iversen and a black suit (including a wig) from Frans Molenaar. When I walked out of the changing room and I saw myself in the mirror wearing the Claes Iversen dress, I was so amazed with how it looked! What a stunning dress.
After trying on the clothes, the make-up team wanted to test the make-up look on me, so it took a while before they figured out what the look would exactly be. After about 2 hours my face was completed and I could go rehearsing with all of the models. We were taught how to walk and how to show the clothes to the audience in different ways. This took about 1.5 hours. We walked the routine a couple of times and we also practiced the finale.

Breathtaking Spring/Summer 16 collection of McQueen! Dutchies in the spotlight

Maartje, Essie, Noa and Vera

I have always loved Alexander McQueen for his deep sense of art, extraordinary designs and skills to empower women with his creations. After I watched the Spring/Summer 2016 fashion show from Paris Fashion Week today, I can say that all the reasons about my admirations for McQueen apply to Sarah Burton as well. I was amazed by the new collection of the English fashion designer and creative director of the brand.

Watching the breathtaking show and hearing the magical melody as a background made me feel like I am in a white fairy tale, surrounded by the beautiful models of McQueen. The first familiar face that we spotted on the catwalk was of the Dutch beauty Maartje Verhoef from Micha Models, presenting the 3rd look of the new collection. Vera van Erp from Code Management, Essie Gassman from Elite Amsterdam and Noa Vermeer from Tjarda Model Management walked the show as well.

Dutch models Jamilla, Kiki and Vera spotted for Public School S/S 16 Show at NYFW

Jamilla Hoogenboom from Micha Models, Kiki Willems from IMG Models and Vera van Erp from Code Management are the ones spotted walking for Public School Spring/Summer 2016 at New York Fashion Week! Jamilla is represented by Women Management (New York), Women Management (Paris), Premier Model Management (London) and Scoop Models (Copenhagen). Kiki was discovered at The Model Convention and is now signed with IMG Models worldwide (New York, Paris, Milan and London) and Vera van Erp is also represented by Next New York, Next Paris and Seeds Management Berlin.

The models are adding show after show to their fashion week lists and give us more reasons to call them Dutch prides! The co-founders and designers of Public School Dao-Yi Chow and Maxwell Osborne shared more about the concept of their new collection. Their Public School girl has been travelling around the world and came back after a journey to find out more about herself. Being the city girl at heart, she came back with a new perspective. We see it represented in the modernistic silhouettes, interesting geometric shapes and the great fabrics that turn the whole collection into a desired one to wear. Long parachute coats, maxi silk dresses, high waisted trousers in black, white and grey tones build a whole new collection that we fell in love with!
