As an editor, I am extremely happy to introduce you Tessa Westerhof! The model that I have been looking for a very very long time. Luckily I found her and here is the right time to quote one of my favorite sayings ‘’What you seek is seeking you.’’ , because it seems that Tessa has been looking for us as for a while as well. Since today on, she will be blogging for our Spotted Style followers and share her modelling experience by giving you tips and guidelines for new faces that are just entering the fashion industry. And now maybe wonder what is her story… We met her for an interview and asked her a few questions. Below you can find more about the Dutch beauty in our spotlight!
Tessa was born in Den Haag, The Netherlands and is currently living in London with her boyfriend. Tessa’s modelling story started when she was 14 and came for the first time in Amsterdam. That was the day when her life got into a different direction and she got scouted. Today Tessa is represented by Wilhelmina London, Uno Barcelona/ Madrid, Iconic Germany and Supreme Paris. Hi, Tessa! Can you introduce yourself and tell our Spotted Style followers what they can expect from your blog posts?
My name is Tessa and I’m from a city in the Netherlands called Den Haag. I have been fulltime for almost 3 years and really want to share some of my experience and tips with new faces. Things that I would have liked to hear when I started.
How long ago did you start modelling and did it change your life in some way?
I got scouted when I was 14 in the Kalverstraat. It was my first time in Amsterdam and I couldn’t believe it. I was very shy and at an awkward age.
It did change my life. I got a lot less shy and hopefully less awkward!
Currently, you are in London. How long are you staying there and can you tell us in short about your days in the UK?
I have been on and off in London for 3 years now. It wasn’t love at first sight but it’s my absolute favorite city now. I love it because of all the different areas, the restaurants, the markets, the beautiful parks and the English traditions like afternoon tea and Sunday roasts. In January I moved into my own apartment with my boyfriend.
I never have a normal week but roughly I work once a week abroad. On casting days I do a workout in the morning and meet a friend in between castings.
What is your favorite shoot/campaign or fashion show you have done?
The first thing that comes to my mind was the G-star campaign. It was my first big job. I also loved doing Marie Claire UK and recently I have done Elle UK.
What does it take to be a successful in the modelling industry?
I think you have to love your job, be curious, want to learn more and, then, gain experience – it’s important to learn how to move in front of the camera.
Can you tell us what is the thing that you love most about being a model?
I love when you arrive in the morning, start getting ready and slowly transform into your character for the shoot. Also I’m really into make up so I love chatting with the make up artists about products. Being able to travel to places I have never been is one of my favorite things about modeling.
Apart from modelling what are your hobbies and passions?
I love to write, draw, work out, watch nature documentaries, read philosophy, cook and do home study. I always find some online course or video that I find interesting.
How do you stay in shape and do you have beauty tips for our Spotted Style followers?
I enjoy working out which makes it a lot easier. I don’t really enjoy going to a regular gym so I like to try different workouts and recently I discovered Classpass. You can go to different studios and do workouts like: reformer pilates, hot yoga, hit workouts, swimming and spinning. Or I train with Russell Bateman from SBC; his classes are the hardest I have ever done and you feel amazing afterwards. I would recommend doing group classes because you always push a little bit more than on your own.
My biggest beauty tip is to watch videos from Lisa Eldridge. She is my all time favorite make up artist. I use coconut oil and Pai rosehip oil for my skin.
Is modeling a dream come true for you?
What is fashion for you? How would you describe your own style and what is your must-have for this season?
I think it’s a creative process but it is so much more. Everyone wears clothes so everyone is involved!
My style is quite casual. My must-have for this season is a a good pair of jeans. It’s worth investing in.
How do you dress in your daily life when you are not in the modelling spotlight?
I like to wear my Paige jeans, a t-shirt with some boots.
What brings smile on your face? What or who makes you happy and laugh?
Little things in the day. My friends and family make me laugh and feel happy. My best friend is the funniest person on the planet.
Do you have a favorite model or one that you admire?
I love Daria Werbowy, she was my favorite model before I’d even started modelling myself.
How do you see yourself in a couple of years? What do you want from the future?
The next couple of years I’ll hopefully work on some great projects with amazing people. Lets see what happens – I have a lot of passions and interests so I’m sure things will be exciting!
For the future I want everyone around me to be happy and healthy; to live close to everyone I care about (a short Dutch biking distance!) and hopefully have my own company doing something I love.
If you could tell something to the whole world what it would be?
It’s your life. Don’t stay in your comfort zone. Explore – it’s the only way you will keep growing. Yes it will be scary but it will be worth it. Explore your passions whatever they are. And don’t worry so much!
