Can you introduce yourself to our Spotted Style followers? Who are you and how would you describe yourself?
My name is Jet, a 19 year old traveler and a full-time model.

What are you hobbies and biggest passions?
My current favorite hobby is travelling and I’m blessed that it is a part of my job. I also love listening to music and going to festivals, unfortunately I can’t go very often because I can’t really plan ahead with this job.

When and how you started your modelling career? Were you scouted by somebody?
I was scouted by Malou (Curvy model @LindaModels) right after I finished school. I was scouted a few times before but this was the right time for me to start modelling.

Did modelling influence or change your life? If yes, in what way?
Modelling changed my life completely, my life went from being in school and living at my parents to travelling all over the world by myself, living out of a suitcase. I learned so much from the travelling and this job. You figure out who you are and what you want in life when you’re by yourself all the time and learn to appreciate yourself and your life so much more. I meet new people everyday and have friends all over the world now. It’s interesting to meet all these people who are from different countries and who grew up in different cultures and I learned so much about the world because of them.

Are you doing catwalks? Have you walked a show for Fashion week?
I have done fashion shows and I was in Milan during fashion week once but in September I will go to New York for the first time to do fashion week there.

What are the biggest campaigns/brands you have done and worked for?
I’ve worked twice for Harper’s Bazaar. I’m still a new face so more big jobs are still to come. I hope;)

Did you ever dream to be a model?
Before I could even start dreaming about modelling I was already scouted a few times from the age of 13. My mother has been modelling for a short time so I knew I maybe could be a model once but I never really thought about it and it was never my dream. Although now it feels like I’m living in a dream.

What does it take to be a successful model?
You have to be confident and have to feel good about yourself, it would be too hard otherwise. You need to be professional but also a bit crazy, when you have to jump or dance around while the whole team is watching you. Also it’s important that you can be alone and can make friends easy and that you not get homesick too much. I am still learning every day.

How do you stay in shape and do you have beauty tips for our Spotted Style followers?
I have to say I am lucky and with me a lot of other models, because I am born skinny. So please try to not compare yourself to the body of a model, realise most of us are born thin and it’s our job to stay in shape. To stay healthy I work out often and try to eat as healthy as possible. I think my best tip is to not torture yourself, if you’re craving chocolate or something else and you have been eating healthy before, have it. Its all about balance.

One thing that you love most about modelling?
Travelling and having friends all over the world.

What is fashion for you? How would you describe your own style?
Fashion is an artistic expression. I work with artists and there a so many creative people in this industry. Fashion is a way to express yourself and to show who you are or what you feel like. I dress how I feel, sometimes I really like to dress up all girly but most of the time you’ll see me in worn-out black boots or Allstars, which I will wear until it is time to buy new ones. I wear so many beautiful clothes during my job, it’s sometimes nice to just put on jeans and over-sized sweaters. Besides that, with limited space in my suitcase, I can’t bring 10 pairs of shoes with me everywhere I travel to. Actually, I don’t even own that many shoes.

If we spot you randomly on the street, what would be your daily outfit?
As I like to keep it simple I normally wear skinny jeans with a nice top or over-sized knitted sweater and my black boots with some accessories. My style can be bold and edgy one day and the other day girly and classy, depends on the occasion and on my mood.

What is your must-have for the season?
Summer is coming up and I can’t wait to wear my ripped, high-waisted shorts and cropped tops again.

Fashion/ beauty icon that you admire?
I admire the Dutch designer Iris van Herpen, I saw her designs in a museum and what she does with the fabric and materials is a pure art.

What makes you laugh and what makes you happy?
Nerdy things like 9gag make me laugh and coming back home in Holland and see the people I love the most again after a long time abroad makes me happy.

Where do you get your inspiration from?
From all the creative people I work with, the counties and cultures I got to know through this job and other models.

How do you see life through your eyes?
Don’t follow the crowd, do what makes you happy, everything is possible if you really want it. I feel like everyone has his whole life already planned but the thing is, you never know what will happen so if you want to do something, do it now, before it’s too late.

What is the most important lesson you have learnt until now from the school of life?
That people can be very judging, mean and harsh and that you have to take care of yourself because sometimes nobody is going to do that for you.

The things that are worth fighting for are?
The people you love and to make your hobby your job so you can do what you like the most.

3songs from your playlist
Muse – The Handler
Red Hot Chili Peppers – Road Trippin’
Eddie Vedder – Guaranteed

5facts that we don’t know about you?
Quitting my studies to do modelling was the best decision I’ve ever made for myself.
As a kid I used to eat as much bad food to be not as skinny, which never worked.
I own an electric guitar but I’m never home to practice.
I love knitting and sewing.
I like to prepare difficult and nice meals for my family but when I’m away I just make something simple and I can eat the same meal every day.

How do you imagine the future, what does it hold for you?
I have no idea what the future holds for me, that’s the best and the worst thing about this job, you never know where it takes you. I think I will go back to school after a few more years of modelling. But where and what I don’t know, a lot can change in one year.

If you could tell something to the whole world what it would be?
Care for others but don’t forget yourself, don’t let anyone get in the way of your dreams.
